MARUTI SUZUKI GYPSY

The hardiest of the lot in this buyer’s guide, the Gypsy has no equals. It is the leader in a world of few, maybe even one. It sees action every day in cities, on the battlefield and the jungles of India. Probably because of its short wheelbase, great ground clearance and god-awesome 4WD system. The Gypsy began its life with 970cc four-cylinder petrol with barely 46 horsepower. Today, that’s been enlarged to 1300cc with 85bhp and a modern MPHi system. Things however haven’t changed much apart from that. Leaf springs continue to hold the weight of the car and while they are good for the back-of-the-beyond, they aren’t kind on your back. You still get soft-top and hard-top as choices, but no extra creature comforts. Fuel efficiency is not its forte, so expecting anything like a small Maruti would be unfair, nevertheless it isn’t bad on its own. Performance if decent otherwise but it isn’t the kind of car for corner carving. Saturday night with your girlfriends, apart from the odd adventure, is what it does well.

  1. MARUTI SUZUKI GYPSY has simple look but very good for some rough and tough roads as its power has been improved, its engine is normal and had little fuel consumptions.
