Chevrolet really found themselves in the right place at the right time. The Honda CR-V was ruling the roost, but petrol prices were going northwards. The Hyundai Tucson was getting old and the Ford Endeavour too much of an off-roader to be a good on roader. Chevrolet had the answer for everyone’s needs-a good looking seven seat soft roader that ran on diesel. In no time, the Captiva has become among the top two selling SUVs in its segment. The Captiva is an out-and-out tarmac hugger, one that can take family, dog and maid on a long trip without much of a fuss. The 2.0 TCDI from the Optra here gets variable geometry turbo to liberate 30 more horsepower. It’s powerful enough for the expressway run, and even handles bad roads with its independent suspension. Fuel, efficiency is in line with expectations of a car this size, but it could have done with 4WD and more air-conditioning vents. The former, it seems might get answered very soon as Chevrolet plan to launch an automatic variant with four-wheel drive.
