CHEVROLET TAVERA

When the Toyota Qualis was axed, everyone wondered if there was a worthy replacement that could fill in the void. The Chevrolet Tavera that had been selling limited numbers until then, seemed to be the answer, and soon enough people accepted it in large numbers. Today, the Tavera, the erstwhile Isuzu Panther, has become popular among taxi operators and families alike. The utilitarian looks apart; the Tavera has been recently revamped with a new grille, slightly beefed up interiors with a new 2-DIN stereo system and other minor features. Chevrolet offers a host of trim options, from the basic versions with air-conditioning to the fully-loaded bells-and-whistles models. The 2.5-liter turbo diesel remains unchanged, so there’s decent torque for highway duty. A common rail engine is due.
AUTODATA:
Engine: 2499cc, 1-4
Transmission: 5-speed manual
Power (bhp@rpm): 80@3900
Torque (kgm@rpm): 23@ 1800
Dimensions:
LxWxH (mm): 4435x1680x1765
Wheelbase: 2685 mm
What’s it got: A decent people mover, a good Qualis replacement.
What it ain’t: Everyone will ask you for an airport/railway station drop.
Anything else? The sonalika Rhino is a good effort. The sume Grande and Scorpio are the usual suspects.
