Car insurance market is one of the biggest ones in the society and because of this several fraudulent people have come up with several schemes that may extract money from your insurance company without appropriate reasons. It’s significant to stay away from these car insurance scams and for this you need to understand what kind of car insurance scams are prevalent in the market:
• Rear-ender scam: The scammers will drive in front of your car and then slam their brakes. You will not get enough time to press your brakes and thus end up hitting them. The insurance companies and the police will assume that your car was at fault of a rear-end crash and thus, the scammer gets several advantages from your insurance. In most cases, they receive false medical claim by convincing the doctor that they suffered injuries during the crash. They may also have medical accomplices who may receive payoff for this cooperation.
• Exaggeration scam: In this scam, the individuals damage their car in such a way that it looks as if it has been damaged in the accident with your car. In this type of scam, the accident is staged and when they prove that their car got damaged in the accident, they receive benefits of doubt and thus they are paid for the damages by your insurance company.
• Good Samaritan Scam: In this type of scam, an individual waves to you when you are not able to see the coming traffic. They wave you to their partner’s path and they smash into your car, giving an impression that you drove out into the traffic and it was entirely your fault. When the police investigate, the person who waved obviously denies that he ever waved to you.
In order to be away from these car insurance scams, the first thing you need to do is to be a protective driver. You should always remain alert and never trust other people around you, especially if someone waves to you. You should also make sure that there is enough space between your car and the car in front of you. If the car darts out in your front, you should slow down or press the brakes immediately.
Apart from that, make sure that everything has been documented in case of any mishap. Always keep a mobile phone with camera for taking pictures on the accident site and carefully listen what witnesses have to say to the police. It would be better if you keep a copy of the police report also so that you can present your suspicions to your insurance company.
The insurance companies are experienced enough to stop scammers so it would be better to give them all the details of the accident.
